MPRE and Federal Employment

Post by Anonymous User » Fri Apr 15, 2016 10:37 am

So, I'm taking the Bar and MPRE for a state which requires an 80 to pass; however, the state where I will be working (employed as a federal attorney) requires an 85 to pass.

Did I pass the MPRE given that the state which I am taking for it requires an 80 and I scored an 84; or do I need to score an 85 to pass even though I'm working for the Federal government?

Sum:
Federal gov't attorney working in jurisdiction requiring 85
Taking Bar and MPRE in a jurisdiction requiring an 80
Scored 84
Did I pass?

You will probably want to confirm this with your HR people, but since the MPRE is required to get barred in a specific state, I think you passed. I (fed atty) have never had to provide the feds with my MPRE score, just with proof that I'm admitted to the bar somewhere. (My district doesn't require me to be barred in the state where the district is located; sounds like yours doesn't either - so that state's admission requirements should be moot.)

The mpre is a requirement for the jurisdiction where you will be licensed. This means that you need to pass where you will be taking the bar exam.
