Posting anon about shoes/suits = ridiculous
Posting anon about specific things your firm does = slightly less ridiculous
Actually taking TLS serious = the most ridiculous

Also wondering this, will we get the first paycheck on the 31st, or will it be the june 15th (or even worse, june 30th? As much as a 5 digit paycheck would be cool, not having to put my rent on a credit card would be even better.Anonymous User wrote:So when do we get $$$ (NYC). Kinda broke here.

Can we do a poll for people's start dates?SplitMyPants wrote:

Pretty sure the first paycheck will be coming in on the 31st, but last year's SAs would have a better idea. No way are firms waiting until June 30th though.BmoreOrLess wrote:Also wondering this, will we get the first paycheck on the 31st, or will it be the june 15th (or even worse, june 30th? Re: Summer Associate Class of 2016
Would it be dumb to do a multi-response poll and include length of people's programs, too? So you could basically check one box for start date and one box for length. You would lose accuracy of the percentages displayed, but we'd capture more data with a single poll.

IME outside of law firms, you usually don't get paid till the second pay period, and some places only pay once a month.fkt18 wrote:Pretty sure the first paycheck will be coming in on the 31st, but last year's SAs would have a better idea. New poll.
There's five options for each category, so assuming people actually do respond as intended, you can just double each percentage to get the accurate value.
eta: also, halve the "total votes" to get total actual responses.

I got paid for the first time at the end of week two, and then was paid every two weeks after that, but I'm sure everyone's mileage will varyfkt18 wrote:Pretty sure the first paycheck will be coming in on the 31st, but last year's SAs would have a better idea. Not splitting, firm only took 3 SAs and allowed us to work as many weeks as we wanted.

That's pretty awesome. Although, a part of me is glad I didn't have to make the choice between making extra money to offset loans next year and getting a short time off. At least, that's what I'll keep telling myself.stannis wrote:SplitMyPants wrote:damn that's long. i thought about it, there's only 10 options allowed. are you splitting?stannis wrote:Maybe add an option for 13+ weeks. Re: Summer Associate Class of 2016
You should definitely email your firm and ask. I sent an email to recruiting/HR (basically the people who have been emailing us stuff in prep for the summer). I just told them I was planning out some of my finances for the beginning of the summer and wanted to know the pay cycle (monthly, bi-weekly, twice a month, etc...) and when they anticipated we would receive our first paycheck.BmoreOrLess wrote:Also wondering this, will we get the first paycheck on the 31st, or will it be the june 15th (or even worse, june 30th? They responded back almost immediately with the information. This is a totally reasonable question to ask in advance and most firms will operate differently so best to get the info straight from them.

Re: Summer Associate Class of 2016
So just to get it in here near the top, since i see there is the usual discussion on the topic: my tip for the first day is that you should feel free to go ahead and wear a suit, even if the firm is business casual. You will not look out of place at all. Many attorneys wear suits every day even in business casual offices, and others don't, according to their preference.
But then, if you choose to dress it down afterwards, you remove the tie, not the jacket. In my view the tie-no-jacket look is only appropriate in a few situations, i.e. if you are going to (i) ring my doorbell and ask if I've been saved, (ii) teach me AP physics, (iii) oversee an Apollo launch from mission control or (iv) give me a violin recital.
