Wait until you've been doing it long enough to flip back over to looking awful when you're doing it. I squat about 320 and it's not a pretty sight.Anonymous User wrote:For the sake of this question, let's assume you look good lifting/have been doing it long enough to know what you're doing.Anonymous User wrote:There's no fucking way I want anyone I work with to know what I look like when I'm lifting. I feel like I wouldn't want to spend time sweating it out with old partners but I'm biased because I dislike gyms in general--I much prefer to do home workouts.Anonymous User wrote:For the sake of this question, let's assume you look good lifting/have been doing it long enough to know what you're doing.Anonymous User wrote:There's no fucking way I want anyone I work with to know what I look like when I'm lifting. ETA: I'm sure you are fine to use your firm's gym. That's what it is there for

I think it'll be arriving on Tuesday, I'll let you know how I like it! The pleats worry me but it looks gorgeous and the price is right.Banshee wrote:What do you think of the Adrianna Papell dress? I've been eyeing it for awhile...

I will happily use a firm gym if it's available, and might end up just ordering salads at lunch. I'm a big health nut and I refuse to gain weight this summer/buy new suits.

Re: Summer Associate Class of 2016
I don't think it will be that difficult. I didn't notice many people gain any significant weight over my summer and we were all going out to eat every day that there wasn't a lunch training. Just because you go out doesn't mean you have to eat a 16oz steak.fkt18 wrote:I will happily use a firm gym if it's available, and might end up just ordering salads at lunch. Re: Summer Associate Class of 2016
I was able to go most of last summer without gaining a pound, albeit I mostly made sure I was never too busy to forgo my workout routine. I just kept to salads and grilled chicken dishes or otherwise subbed out fries for veggies when possible, and generally just made sure to eat more than got me full. Even with all the drinking at events I was able to do fine with weight. But then again, I drink too much as it is, so there wasn't much of a change there...

I'm so confused by this, how do you go to a normal gym.Anonymous User wrote:There's no fucking way I want anyone I work with to know what I look like when I'm lifting. What if you have an event that's "active." Will you just be too nervous to go?

I can't think of a single person I've ever seen look bad squatting over two plates unless it's with terrible form and no depth, in which case lower the weight. A popping vein and red face is not "looking awful" if you're squatting 3 plates and change with good form.Anonymous User wrote:Wait until you've been doing it long enough to flip back over to looking awful when you're doing it. Noise is also an aspect of it. I don't want to sound like cow giving birth in front of my boss.PeanutsNJam wrote:

Re: Summer Associate Class of 2016
I used the gym in the building last summer (it wasn't strictly a "firm gym" - it was shared with the other tenant in the building). No problems, even though the firm had to go to the extra effort to set up my keycard to access the gym. The gym wasn't heavily utilized early in the morning, though; about 95% of the time I had the place to myself.Anonymous User wrote:What are all your thoughts on using your firm's gym, if they have one? If you don't know the answer to this by now there's nothing I can do for you. I wouldn't even bother showing up this summer.Serett wrote:But ZUCK, what about white vs. ivory vs. cream?!?!BigZuck wrote:If you guys aren't planning on spending $500 on wool pants and gaining 15 pounds over the course of the summer then I don't know wtf to tell you

My bold strategy is to cut costs by not wearing pants, period. I'll let you know how it pans out.BigZuck wrote:If you guys aren't planning on spending $500 on wool pants and gaining 15 pounds over the course of the summer then I don't know wtf to tell you

Does anyone know the most prestigious brand of sock suspenders?
I'm not trying to get no-offered for off-brand suspenders for my dress socks, or, God forbid, socks that aren't pulled up all the way.

Summer Associateships aren't exactly last days of Rome. It's perfectly possible to get through the summer without looking like hedonism bot.
Why you would want to is an entirely separate question.

Do most folks hit the gym before work / on the way in? Seems like lunchtime and after work would be impossible to plan for with all the power lunches and happy hours clogging up our days.

Re: Summer Associate Class of 2016
I went in the morning before work. The gym in the office was never crowded, and leaving the house early let me beat some of the morning traffic. Plus, if the traffic was particularly bad one morning, it wouldn't make me late for work; I'd just have to cut my workout a little short.Glasseyes wrote:Do most folks hit the gym before work / on the way in? Allegedly it's what all the "law pros" use. Haven't pulled the trigger, however, because I'm waiting to get a feel for if my firm is more of a shirt stay or sock garter type of place. Wouldn't want to make that mistake...
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
