How Important is 1L summer job for 2L OCI? Forum

Generally speaking, is it super important to have a 1L summer job relevant to the career interest you express at OCI? Obviously it's helpful, but if I'm striking out everywhere, is it super detrimental to not have something relevant to my career aspirations?

You just need a legal job that you can talk about during interviews. I imagine a large majority of people do a different kind of legal work their 1L summer than they end up doing at a firm.

This is pretty much accurate. You just need to get some substantive experience that you can talk about during OCIs, i.e. what you learned, experienced, etc.

an SA at a biglaw firm + offer to return as a 1L is a noticeable boost @ OCI because your resume shows that another BL firm has already taken a chance on you (ie, screener/callback/offer/employment) and thought you were normal enough to extend another offer to.

That may not sound like it means a lot, but it does
