2L attending 1L firm reception?
Not the sort of serious reception at the firm office, but at a bar. Is it kosher to show up and just talk to people and make friends. I'm not longing for a job- just a big fan of the firm.

I'd tread lightly just because the usual icebreaker will tend to be "so, how are first-year courses treating ya?" But you know this already. It seems a bit corny, but I'll yield to others who may have done this, as I'm a 1L.

OP here, thanks for the input. How about I show up at the end of the event, pretend like I happened to be around the area( I actually live in the neighborhood) and just saying Hi- you know I don't want to get into a private event without rsvp them

Are you a 2L that is about to work for this firm this summer and you're just really excited about it? Yeah, I think we need some more context here. If you worked there your 1L summer (and especially if you're going back there this summer), I'd think they'd be happy to have you there, talking up the firm to the prospective 1L summers.
