Speed Camera Tickets and Bar Application?

Post by Anonymous User » Wed Mar 30, 2016 11:25 pm

Do I disclose "speed camera" tickets on my Bar application?

I am talking about the cameras on the side of the road that take your picture if you drive by them going 12? mph over the speed limit. You then get a $30 ticket in the mail a week later along with the picture. If you have never seen these before, consider yourself lucky.

The question on the Bar application asks "Have you been cited for, arrested for, charged with, or convicted of any moving traffic violation during the past ten years? (Omit parking violations.)"

I have received 15 to 20 of these tickets in the last year and a half. These are civil, not criminal, violations.

I called the office of the Bar I am applying to and the person I spoke with said I didn't not need to disclose these tickets. However, I have no idea who I spoke with and they didn't seem to put much thought into their answer. I have emailed the Bar office twice with the question, to try and get something in writing, but I can't get a response.

I have exactly one of these tickets. My friend was driving me home (in my car) from the hospital and slowly coasted through a red light so as to not slam on the brakes and send my half-sedated ass flying through the front window (couldn't wear a seat belt because it was hurting my stitches), and wouldn't you know it, the intersection had a camera. The ticket from my state clearly says "not a moving violation". Check your tickets (15 to 20 of them?!) to see if they also state this? My issue is that I wasn't driving when the camera snapped my photo. I guess that will be my question when my time comes...

I got two of those while my C&F was pending, disclosed along with proof of payment. Never heard about them again.

OP here, I admit it. I am guilty of all 15 to 20 tickets. But in my 1 hr 20 min commute each way, I passed 3 speed cameras on the way to work and 4 on the way home. That's 7 chances to get a ticket per day, 35 chances per week, 140 chances per month....you get the picture. I'm actually surprised I didn't get more.

I checked the tickets and they say "not a moving violation" so that settles it right?
