Hey all. So 2L NYC SA this summer. I know the consensus in a lot of the old 2L SA threads is it's not a huge deal to go business professional first day, and then if you realize that business casual is the norm, switch to that.
But did any of you, pre-summer start date, receive specific instruction as to what's expected every day? I know many firms are bus cas, but I'd imagine a few expect bus prof. everyday.
I also cant fathom being the square who emails recruiting saying "hey whats the dress code?!?!"
Any input appreciated.

Re: SA Everyday Clothing
My firm let us know before that it was bus cas, and on day one had an actual dress code (very basic) so there was no confusion.
I mean - if you wear a suit the first day and see you're overdressed, take off the jacket and tie and you'll be fine. No need to overthink this. Just wear what everyone else wears.

If you're female, wear a suit or a dress with a blazer over it the first day. If you're overdressed, take off the blazer (and throw on a cardigan if your blouse/dress is sleeveless).
If you're a male, wear a suit the first day. If you're overdressed just take off your jacket.

This is a completely appropriate question to ask/email to send I don't know why people are so afraid to ask recruiting anything.Anonymous User wrote:I also cant fathom being the square who emails recruiting saying "hey whats the dress code?!?!"
I think we send out an explicit blurb to the effect of "most people wear suits the first day but the dress code is business casual so wear whatever makes you most comfortable". Just wear the suit the first day it won't kill you and others will be in them also.
Or don't wear a suit the first day because it won't kill you and others will wear business casual also (unless you are at a bus formal firm).
