Ballard Spahr Experiences

Post by Anonymous User » Wed Mar 23, 2016 12:15 am

Does anyone have any stories to share about their experiences at Ballard Spahr, particularly in the corporate group? Debating an offer at the moment. Thanks in advance for any responses.

Cannot speak from personal experience, but I know someone that summered in DC and was no-offered within the last two years. It was not performance-based.

Was your friend the only summer no offered? Was he/she given a reason?

From what I understand (vis a vis personal connection), Ballard Spahr DC routinely no-offers their entire summer class. NALP seems to confirm this...

And didn't they take like 6 months to get back to some people from OCI?

Interesting. Thanks for your comments. I would be a lateral in one of their satellite offices. Can anyone else speak to their experiences, especially work life balance?

Fourth anon here (who knows someone who was no-offered from DC office). Despite the no-offers, culture is actually supposed to uniformly pretty great at Ballard. Relatively decent work-life balance, chances at substantive work, supposedly chill partners. There are supposedly a handful of bad partners to work for tho. This is mostly hearsay of course, but I went to Penn so I heard more about Ballard than probably most people (also had friends work in several offices). Ballard had such a good reputation that it was actually pretty competitive to get a summer associate spot there. HTH

OP here. Thanks for people's responses thus far. Doesn't seem like there are many Ballard folks here.

From what I was told, my friend was not the only summer no-offered. I believe the reason was they simply didn't have an opening. Hope this helps.

FWIW, I don't have any experience working in a Ballard Office, but prior to law school I did work with Ballard from a business standpoint (they represented the company I was with through a M&A). Everyone at Ballard was awesome and we had a great experience using them as our legal counsel. Because I had experience with them, and connections, I was interested in trying to SA with them, but for the past couple of years they have had a limited SA program with many offices having no SAs. I have absolutely no knowledge or information about why they no-offered some SAs or why they have cut back their program, I can only say that my experience working with the firm was really great (good people, good culture, albeit I wasn't trying to get a job from them).
