My firm is sending me overseas for a few weeks for a firm marketing / networking trip. Problem is I have no idea how to properly market the firm or network as I've never done it before.
I'm supposed to meet with industry people 2-3 times per day for lunch, drinks, etc. to market the firm to these industry folks. I'm kind of introverted but obviously I can turn it on for my profession, I'm just new to this stuff and have no idea what I'm supposed to be doing exactly. Does anyone have any tips or things to read to help me prepare for this?

shouldn't you be asking people at your firm these questions? there have to be some rainmakers there that can give you some tips. i would try and find a mentor there ASAP.
also, is this a flame? seems unlikely that a firm would send someone with no biz dev experience on a multi-week trip by them self without some sort of guidelines or ground rules.

OP here. Not a flame, although I agree it's pretty uncommon. It's just a really niche market and they want me to get to know the players and push the firm. I'll be there three weeks, first week alone, next two weeks with a partner.
Of course they have given me ground rules and guidelines. I was just basically seeing if anyone here has done something similar and any tips they could provide for a newbie in this area.

How senior are you? Do you have the ability to intelligently talk about your field? If so, it should be fairly natural to discuss whatever field that is and whatever issues are trending in that field. I think the one good universal tip is to just ask a lot of questions and do a lot of listening. People like to talk about their problems and then you can start to figure out how to market your firm as a solution.
