the difference between an associate and a principal is the same as the difference between an associate and a partner. the difference between a partner and a principal is that partner is the title given to one who shares in the profits and management of a partnership (or LP or LLP) and a principal is the title given to one who shares in the profits and management of a professional corporation (P.C.).
