No start date?

Post by Anonymous User » Sat Feb 20, 2016 3:40 pm

I interviewed with and accepted an offer at a firm in NYC (as a 3L) last fall and am scheduled to start there this fall. I haven't heard anything from the firm since around the time I accepted, except for an email explaining the process for bar expense reimbursements a few months ago. Today, I ran into the only other person from my school who is working at this firm's NYC office (she summered there as a 2L). She mentioned that she'd already received her start date and some other information about moving expense reimbursements, salary advances, etc. over the last few months. I haven't received any of that information--most importantly, my start date--and I'm a little worried. Obviously, I'll call their legal recruiting department on Monday to find out what's up, but until then, does anyone have any thoughts about whether this is cause for concern?

They're not going to forget they made you an offer or change their mind and not tell you. I'm sure it's that they have a process in place for getting that info to former summers - because that happens every year - that they don't have for hiring 3Ls because it happens less often. You're just in a different part of their spreadsheets.

Yeah, I received the offer for my job almost a full year before the actual start date, and I don't think I heard anything about anything until the middle of bar study.

Thanks, that's exactly what I was worried about, and this makes me feel a little better.

I think I got my start date late spring/early summer. No need to worry. Some firms are just slower with it than others.

Other than a written offer letter after the summer, I haven't heard from my firm yet either... anyone know if this normal?
