FERC ALJ Clerks
Are there any former FERC ALJ law clerks or any other 2016 applicants? The application period just closed yesterday and I was wondering what the hiring timeline was.

Re: FERC ALJ Clerks
Bump? It's been over two weeks since the deadline. If we haven't heard anything by now is that a bad sign? Apparently a friend of a friend got an interview already (I don't know any details). Do they send out all interview invites at once?
And does anybody know if it was a rolling application, as opposed to just waiting until the deadline? I sent my application in right on February 8, do you think that will hurt me? I didn't see anything on the post that would indicate they took applications on a first-come basis but now I'm worried. I know a lot of judges do rolling applications, but most other jobs just have a deadline. I could have applied sooner if I had to but I didn't think there was any need to get applications in any sooner than the deadline.

Re: FERC ALJ Clerks
Anon from above. Haven't heard anything either, I applied towards the beginning of January. No idea if it is a rolling deadline - I was under the impression that they were not interviewing until after the application period closed, based on a confirmation email I received in response to my application.

Confirmation email???? I did not receive a confirmation email... I just triple-checked the email, i sent it to s...k...@ferc.gov, spelled right and everything. Now I'm worried. Did you receive the confirmation email right after sending the application?

Okay. I sent mine in 16 days ago, so hopefully this is just a normal lag.

What do you know about the interview extended to your friend of a friend?

Nothing. I don't even know if they interviewed yet or were simply offered one. It kind of just came up when I was talking to a friend. All I know is that this person has very very good grades, but from a school outside the top-50Anonymous User wrote:What do you know about the interview extended to your friend of a friend?

So there is still hope? Or you think not?Anonymous User wrote:I heard they are giving interview offers and sending rejection letters this week and next
I just heard from a friend that he/she was contacted this past Friday for an interview. I, on the other hand, have heard nothing (not even a confirmation). He/she said they are scheduling interviews this week and next. FERC refused to tell him/her how many people were selected to interview. He/she said that FERC may not have scheduled all their interviews as of yet; he/she did not know. Now, mind you, my friend is very diligent, so I'm guessing he/she applied well before the February 8 deadline. Perhaps they are still reviewing the applications filed closer to the deadline?

Idk to be honest... I submitted my application close to the deadline as well and never received a confirmation. I don't know how the process works but if each individual judge picks candidates to interview then perhaps some are still making calls for interviews? I'm not counting on it though. Pretty disappointed

Re: FERC ALJ Clerks
What I'm afraid of is that the deadline was specified as "February 8, 2016". Now, to pretty much the entire rest of the country, that implies 11:59 PM local time. And I submitted mine at like 11:45 PM. But with FERC filings at least, the deadline is always 5 PM EST. It's one of the reasons FERC practice is so great—you get to go home for dinner most days. But maybe the administrator wasn't taking apps after she left for the day. They didn't say 5 PM but maybe that was the cutoff?Anonymous User wrote:Idk to be honest... Not sure if they hold to that same 5 pm deadline. To clarify, I submitted a couple days earlier (Friday) and I never got a confirmation. Also I'm pretty sure the job posting was still on my schools symplicity website on the evening of feb 8th.

Re: FERC ALJ Clerks
That would be pretty disappointing if they were making interview offers to early applicants before even reviewing the later applicants. Most government jobs aren't like that, they just have a deadline and don't look at anything until after the deadline. I would have rushed mine in sooner if I knew that wasn't the case here. But it looks like nobody who applied right on the 8th has even heard anything. And now it's almost the end of the day Thursday, so if they're scheduling the interviews for this week and next, they're almost half over.Anonymous User wrote:He/she said they are scheduling interviews this week and next. I really wish government hiring was more transparent. You'd think the government could be a little more open about what their timelines and expectations are.

Re: FERC ALJ Clerks
I applied in late January and received a conformation e-mail the next day. An H.R. person called me in mid-February and notified me I had been selected for an interview. The same person e-mailed details the next day and scheduled me for an interview for the middle of last week. I asked during the interview when they will make their final selections and notify candidates. One of the ALJ’s said they make selections and notify the candidate in mid-March. That’s all the information I have.
If anybody else applied and got an interview, could you say more about your background. I went to school in DC, but not in the T50, but have lots of energy and environmental experience, including rate setting, and have some post-grad practice experience in the both fields as well.
