AG's Office or Smaller NJ DA's Office

Post by Anonymous User » Fri Feb 05, 2016 10:12 pm

For a 1L, which would be the better internship, both in terms of resume building and experience, the NJ AG's office or a smaller-sized NJ DA's Office?

Can not be answered unless you say what you are interested in doing after law school or what bureau in the AG's office. Does NJAG hire 1L to work in crim? I ask because in NY it was only 2Ls with rare exceptions.

I am the OP. It's the civil division of the AG office. I don't know what I want to do next summer, I just want to pick the best 1L summer gig that will make me the most competitive for 2L summer.

I was under the impression that, with the exception of super prestigious/big name summer gigs, 1L summer isn't really gonna make a difference. Just that you do something legal foe the summer and don't burn the place down.

ETA: Am 1L so just going off what I have heard.

For biglaw hiring it doesn't matter at all. For PI you may want to try to get experience in the same general field to demonstrate interest/commitment.

Right. But here we are talking about AG vs DA. Not a huge disparity.

Also, OP, I would think a lot of the answers you're looking for are office specific. What have past interns done? Is there a formal training aspect at one but not the other? Do you want to work at one of these places long term? Etc...
