Is anyone familiar with the bonus structure for lawyers at Goldman? I know that partners, directors and traders there can get crazy bonuses but I was curious as to how bonus worked in the legal dept. I would assume they are much bigger than big law bonuses but it's hard to find any solid information.
Anon because I was contacted about a potential opportunity there.

Re: Goldman Sachs bonuses for lawyers
I used to work there, and can only say anecdotally that one of the girls on my team with who had previously worked in the MBD legal dept (though not a lawyer, more like their paralegal roles) got a bonus >100% of her base salary. She said it was partly based off of how well the division did, which is similar to how other revenue generating roles get their bonuses at the firm. Though it is a bit of a black box anyhow.
Take this all with a grain of salt. Those were the good old days circa 2007. Not sure how well compensated lawyers are these days.

Thanks. For other, non-legal positions I've heard of employees receiving multiples of their salaries so > 100% of her salary sounds like it could be about right if the company did well that year.

Same poster as above. WRT bonuses, I never got a bonus >100% (I think my highest was ~30%) but then again I was in a back office/support role and that was during 2010/2011 when it was pretty rough time on bank earnings.

Somehow this post reminds me of HIMYM where Barney bought a diamond suit with his bonus from GNB and Marshall only got a $30 gift card to Costa Coffee.
