JP Morgan Chase for 1L
Hello everyone. I was searching some of the older threads and couldn't seem to find much on this topic in the way of specifics. I was wondering if anyone went through the interview process with them? I have a brief phone screener setup, but I have a very little idea of what to expect.
Will PM if you'd prefer that. Just don't anon so I can contact you.
Thanks in advance to whoever responds.

Re: JP Morgan Chase for 1L
They did their first round/screener interviews on campus at my school last year around this time. The interview was somewhat rigid, in the sense that they clearly had a checklist of questions they were instructed to get through. A lot of "tell me about a time you" etc. Be ready with examples of times you demonstrated various skills.
If you advance, they call you (and the students from your school who also advanced) back for a day of interviews at the office. You'll meet with a HR person first, then a senior person in each of the product groups that the Legal department services (asset management, commercial finance, investment banking, consumer finance). Good to understand the different product lines so you can ask informed questions and maintain a conversation. Other than that, it is a pretty standard interview format (and not unlike OCI). If nothing else, it's good practice in that respect.
FYI - there definitely is a thread from last year that has more info.

Sounds like it's really (or entirely) behavioral for the phone screener then? Recruiter said it'd only last ~10 mins. And, if you don't mind my asking, did they expect you to have questions at the end of the phone screener? Seems like it'd be pretty fast-paced to get through their questions and having a few of my own all in 10 mins or less.
Also, I found the thread but it was mostly people asking about CB status and which schools were targeted.
Thank you, Humbert! : )

Re: JP Morgan Chase for 1L
My screener was an in-person interview, probably 25-30 mins long. With respect to the type of questions, yes entirely behavioral. No technical questions or anything like that. There was definitely time for questions and it would have been strange if I didn't have any. Do you know if you are interviewing with an HR person, or an attorney? If the latter, they very likely transitioned from a law firm - that is a good question/conversation driver. Talk about the differences b/w firm work and in-house, what they like better at JPM, etc. If it's an HR person, I would gear your questions more towards the program itself. You might ask what the trajectory of a summer intern would be within the company going forward, etc.
As a general matter, the program's entire purpose is to find students at top schools and have them start directly at JPM upon graduation, rather than going to a firm and then transitioning years later. Last summer was the first time they did this program, but they were looking for the 1L interns to return as 2L summer interns, and then start full time after graduation. I assume that is still the case. So I would demonstrate interest in this career path (even if you actually plan to get a 2L SA at a firm).

OP did you apply online or through your school's OCI?
Just curious. I applied online 2 - 3 weeks ago and haven't heard back.

It was the 29th. I thought it went well (knock on wood). Apparently CBs are tentatively scheduled for 2/16.Anonymous User wrote:When was your phone screener? Awesome, mine was scheduled for the 29th as well. Hope mine went well, too (knock on all the wood lol). Is that for the CB invites or for the actual visits?Anonymous User wrote:It was the 29th.
