Failed FBI Lie Detector Test --> AUSA?
Does anyone know whether failing an FBI lie detector test to become a Special Agent precludes you from becoming an AUSA?

I don't think you actually took an FBI lie detector test.

If not troll, that would work strongly against you, though during the background check they do evaluate mitigating factors like how long ago it was and other evidence that you are a generally honest person with integrity. But you fucked up huge man.

The AUSA background check does ask whether you ever had a background check and whether you ever were denied clearance based on a background check. When I went through my background check I was told the only absolute deal breakers were drug use since graduation, defaulting on loans, and failing to pay taxes. But I agree that how long ago it was and what you failed for and other evidence of integrity will make a big difference in how it's received.

Seeing as how inaccurate those things are, it would be really stupid for them to make that policy.

Re: Failed FBI Lie Detector Test --> AUSA?
OP here.
Not a troll. I was denied a job as a FBI SA for failing a lie detector test. The proctor said I lied when he asked me if I was being truthful on my background investigation form. I said yes, and he said that I failed that question. I know its cliche, but I believed I was being truthful and maintained that. He said I was lying to him again and the only way to salvage my application was to tell him the truth. So I said I was telling the truth and I got the rejection in the mail.
That was about 6-7 years ago. I am currently working as a prosecutor in NYC, but exploring my options. All insight is appreciated.

Did the letter say that your rejection was due to failing the test? If not it could have just been a tactic the handler was using and you were rejected for something else. In which case I don't think it will hurt you.Anonymous User wrote:OP here.

Yea did you ever even have an offer contingent on clearance?Anonymous User wrote:Did the letter say that your rejection was due to failing the test? It's been a while, but I believe yes to both questions. I had an offer that was contingent on clearance, which was rescinded when I failed the polygraph and the letter stated that the failure was the reason for the rescission.Desert Fox wrote:Yea did you ever even have an offer contingent on clearance?Anonymous User wrote:Did the letter say that your rejection was due to failing the test? Youll have to disclose, but the fact that 1) it was a long time ago and 2) you now work in a position of public trust are both very strong mitigating factors.

Thanks. I understand it doesn't look good, but I was hoping/hope it isn't a disqualifying factor.
