lateraling advice -- two offices of same firm pickle

Post by Anonymous User » Sun Jan 24, 2016 11:08 am

Anybody have advice or experience with lateraling to a new market and being interested in two offices of a firm? Using hypothetical cities to not out myself, but here's the situation:

My spouse just got a job opportunity we'd be crazy to turn down in Athens. Nearest large city is Atlanta (an hour and change away). The firm I'd most want to work for in Atlanta happens to have a smaller office in Athens (around 30 attorneys, largest contingent are part of corporate/transactional practice group). The firm's ATL office has 200+ attorneys. According to NALP/Vault, there are different recruiting coordinators for the two offices.

What's the smartest move? Reach out to both recruiters expressing interest in both offices? Reach out to them individually? Reach out to the Athens office first and wait to see if there's any interest before reaching out to the ATL office?

Thank you for any advice--appreciate it!!

My info in case it's relevant to your advice: 1st year transactional associate at a large firm in a Nashville/Charlotte/Raleigh type city, graduated from a t10 with honors.

Don't put the cart before the horse. Apply broadly in ATL, including firm with ATL/Athens office. You don't have a choice of office until they choose to hire you

It might make sense to reach out to the Athens office and see if they do their own hiring. It's possible they share recruiters/hr.
