Top 1/4 at VP
So I'm sitting at -3.55ish (A, B+, B+). Curious about where that would put me 2l summer hunting. Hoping/expecting to improve second semester (shit went down fall semester) but mylsn says I'm around top 25%. Anyone know what firms are def ruled out, good to shoot for? Thx in advance. Not KJD

You're in good shape. Just remember not to coast this semester because everyone is going to be trying that much harder. Despite what you read on TLS, most firms don't have strict GPA cutoffs.Anonymous User wrote:So I'm sitting at -3.55ish (A, B+, B+). Curious about where that would put me OCI. Covnginton
Williams & Connolly
Paul Weiss

Just say you are at Penn. Anyways, you are in good shape numbers wise. Still a long way to go, however.Anonymous User wrote:So I'm sitting at -3.55ish (A, B+, B+). Re: Top 1/4 at VP
This is a terrible list of firms to be interested in if you're from Penn. Other than Paul Weiss, it's like you couldn't pick 3 firms with weaker to ties to Penn.
Anyways, this is probably true from either school:
Covington - need to be top ~8-9%
Boies - need to be top ~5%
Williams & Connolly - need to be top ~5%
Paul Weiss - top 25% is probably OK, as long as you interview well
Seems like you're interested in lit. I would also look into Cravath (grades might need to go a bit), Gibson Dunn (interview well), Kirkland & Ellis, Skadden (interview well). If you keep your GPA up, which is unlikely, you are probably a semi-lock for Jones Day and Sidley Austin, two firms with impressive lit groups but not the true elite. D
Anon because 2L at Penn.

Thanks so much! Thats exactly what I was looking for. And just so I don't sound delusional, was asking about those bc I know that even know I did "ok/well" there are always constraints. Hope things worked out for you!
And yes, I'm lit all the way

3L at Penn. If you are going for DC then the rule of thumb is that you need an A- average to avoid hustling

Previous poster from Penn here. The above poster was trolling with his reference to K&L Gates (a hilarious troll I might add, but it'd be pretty fucked up to convince a 1L to to spend his summer at the Titanic of BigLaw). Deb does have great dispute resolution/litigation groups tho
If OP is interested in DC and gets his grades up a liiiiittle bit, he's probably in at WilmerHale and Arnold & Porter (need to be a good interviewer though for A&P though). All of this is more feasible if you start networking early, and keep up with your contacts. Top quarter at Penn in your first semester is pretty impressive, but the playing field is much more even this semester. Just don't let your GPA slip too much, practice interviewing, and you're in at New York V10 or DC V30. Whatever that means.

Re: Top 1/4 at VP
These posts are so self-indulgent. Why would you ask before having all your grades? If I tell you "W&C requires a 3.6" are you going to work 10% harder? Come on.Anonymous User wrote:So I'm sitting at -3.55ish (A, B+, B+). Curious about where that would put me 2l summer hunting.
