Etiquette for telling other firms about offers

Post by Anonymous User » Thu Jan 14, 2016 2:56 am

Scenario: You are waiting to hear back from 2 employers you recently interviewed with. You are also scheduled to interview with another employer in two days. Yet another employer has asked your availability to schedule an interview for the following week. You receive an offer from one of the 2 firms you have interviewed with, and you ask and are granted three days to mull it over.

Q1: Is it appropriate to inform the other employer you interviewed with of your offer to hasten their decision?

Q2: Is it appropriate to inform the employer you are scheduled to interview with in two days? Should you do this before or during the interview?

Q3: Is it appropriate to inform the employer you have not yet scheduled an interview with?

For all three scenarios: Should you do this by phone or email? To the hiring partner or to the HR rep? Will you be expected to disclose the identity of the offering firm and the terms of their offer?

I take it you're going to accept the job if you don't get any other offers? Do you have a preference between the firms?

They're all good and bad in some ways. But I can't really make an informed decision without an offer because I don't know with certainty what each would pay. So maximizing offers =making the best informed decision.

1. One of the firms I had a screener with told me they'll be making CB decision in a couple weeks but to let them know if I recieve any other offers in the meantime.

2. They may ask during the interview, if not, depending on how the interiew feels, I'd probably ask them about the next steps, the timeline, and let them know that you have offer that is expiring.

3. I think it would just be weird. I'd wait until the interview.

I'd do email and the HR rep.
