Interviewing with Dream Firm After Accepted at Other Firm
Accepted an SA with mid law paying 80-90k. Office seems chill but it is small (15-20 lawyers), firm has about 90 overall, and does a very specific practice group that I'm not sure I'm interested in. I'll be their only SA.
My dream firm originally came to OCI but backed out before conducting interviews because they didn't foresee a need. Apparently they changed their minds and will be coming back in the spring. Dream firm pays 120-130k, has far more practice groups, and is historically 100% offer. There are rumors that my current firm is not 100% offer. Both are in the same city.
I accepted at my current firm in late August. Should I apply to interview at dream firm? If so, should I be upfront about what I am doing? How do I play this?

I say dream firm loosely. I know their previous SA and he has told me about the firm, it does far more practice areas, it pays substantially more, and is nationally known (for exit options).Actus Reus wrote:What is a dream firm in your mind?
The main thing is the pay. A 40-50k bump is huge for me. The SA pay is almost double what my current firm is offering

I would interview if it's that big of a deal but know that if your firm finds out, you're SOL.
You could always just make contacts and try to lateral or do 3L hiring if they do that.

Know that if the market is smallish, and if they do the same practice areas, its a good chance ppl u interview with at the 2nd firm will know or even be friendly w/ ppl from the original firm
Snitching u out to ur 1st firm would b an absolute piece of shit thing to do, but I wouldn't think it'd be impossible

The advice that it's wrong to do is like if you're at a restaurant and don't realize you forgot your wallet at home till after you get appetizers, and instead of bringing it up then don't bring it up until after you finish the entire meal. They may be upset, but at least they have a chance to bring in somebody new rather than wasting a fair amount of money on you and also missing the chance to hire through their summer program.

I did something similar.
Accepted firm 1 job. Later went on a CB and accepted firm 2. Same city, 3 blocks from eachtoehr.
I wouldn't have done this had Firm 2 not been my dream gig. Firm 2 is a leader (if not #1) in the field I was interested in.
I was upfront with firm 2 and they didn't mind.
Telling firm 1 after accepting firm 2 was a terrible experience though.
