Lateral Job Search (NOT FIRMS): Tips?

Post by Anonymous User » Tue Jan 05, 2016 1:57 am

Any tips for the search?

Currently in major market biglaw. 3-5 years in. Looking to get out of firm life. (If my only choice were to go to another firm, I'd rather just switch professions entirely, which I've also considered.) Not interested in working for financial institutions (banks, etc.) since it's more of the same from what I can tell, especially in a big city. Not picky about geography as long as it's an affordable location. I would most prefer the Pacific Northwest, but I'm okay going where the jobs are. Where to look besides online at random postings? I feel like recruiters only know about firms and financial institutions.

I know it's cliche, but you have to network. That does not mean showing up to "networking events." It means making a concerted effort to get to know people at companies you want to work for. Do as many informational interviews as you can, and get someone on the inside at a company who is going to be willing to get you past HR.
