2L No Summer Jobs - What to do?
My 1L grade was awful and did not land a summer position. My 2L 1st semester grade is significantly improved to top 15%.
What are my options? Any ideas?

Try getting an in house internship for a good company that's serious about hiring from its intern pool.

Yeah just keep applying. It's still early.

Agreed. It is early. Just look for anything in the legal field: small firm, clerkship, government, non-profit, company, or even research assistant. If you didn't work your 1L summer, I'd also suggest trying to find an internship during the semester. You don't want to graduate with limited experience.

I got my summer job sometime in Feb when I was a 2L, so it is definitely not too late. To add to the advice above, you should talk to your CSO and see if there is anything they know about. The firm I ended up working for had not done OCI and was still looking for summers, but the posting wasn't up on Symplicity yet. Also hit up any professors you think might be helpful and see if they have any connections. I know of more than a few people who scored summer jobs this way.

Where did you find your law firm job other than Symplicity?cowgirl_bebop wrote:The firm I ended up working for had not done OCI and was still looking for summers, but the posting wasn't up on Symplicity yet. .

Re: 2L No Summer Jobs - What to do?
I made a check-in appointment with the CSO and while I was there they told me about it. They had me send the office my resume and cover letter and they sent it to the firm on my behalf. Sometimes the office knows about openings that for some reason or another they haven't put up on Symplicity.Anonymous User wrote:Where did you find your law firm job other than Symplicity?cowgirl_bebop wrote:The firm I ended up working for had not done OCI and was still looking for summers, but the posting wasn't up on Symplicity yet. .

1) OP is either stupid or trolling. I mean, what kind of a question is "what to do?" You get a job.
2) Median to top15? That seems implausible - like OP gets Straight A's and all of Dean's List (and then some) getting median-pwnd implausible.

My question is what kind of job I can get at this time of year. Others can understand and add two cents, while you don't even understand, which is not surprising when I read your second comment.pancakes3 wrote:1) OP is either stupid or trolling. There are quite many people who significantly improve their GPA during 2L and 3L and get a biglaw job upon graduation. In my case, I worked before coming to law school and took me some time to adjust myself to a studying mode. Expand your perspectives about people and surroundings, since you just sound like a typical asshole (whose entire world is just compete against their peers). If you excel at standardized tests and you are so proud of those "achievements", good for you and continue to live in your small world. Good luck!

1) I think OP was impliedly asking for help with strategy/resources towards finding a 2L summer job.pancakes3 wrote:1) OP is either stupid or trolling. I mean, what kind of a question is "what to do?" You get a job.

2) I've seen similar jumps at my T-14.

Re: 2L No Summer Jobs - What to do?
I don't think my assholish incredulity has so much to do with me lacking perspective as it does with the math. I absolutely accept the general premise that people can and do improve their GPA/ranking and people who strike out can still get big law. I'm just skeptical of (1) someone made the leap from median to top 15% after just 1 additional semester of grades and (2) someone who's smart enough to pull that off is completely lost wrt getting a job.
I am absolutely basking... nay wallowing... nay reveling in the absurdity of this comment. In my case, I worked before coming to law school and took me some time to adjust myself to a studying mode. ... then leave? I am actually in this exact same position and appreciate the post and any advice that comes from it. We are not lost about how to find a job, but looking for direction on how to approach the job hunt this late in the game and for advice from others who have been in a similar position. Clearly this does not apply to you. Not sure why you would bother wasting your time bringing people down. If you don't believe it and have nothing to contribute, just move on.

Re: 2L No Summer Jobs - What to do?
Do you really think someone is going to give you advice that you don't already know? There's only 1 piece of advice and it's the same bit of advice as it was back in August - you have to hustle. If that bit of advice seems nebulous or vague to you, then I might have to stand by my original statement that people who are confused as to what to do when they're jobless are per se stupid.ojala wrote:... then leave? If you want to let off steam that you struck out, I get that. Seems like a pointless exercise, but whatever. However I don't think threads like this where people are at best fishing for sympathy and anecdotes (or more cynically for someone else to hustle on your behalf and give you leads/tips as to how/where to get a job) are worth a damn.

They may have meant that their 2L first semester grades are top 15%, not that their cumulative GPA has moved up that much.

Don't troll here, don't write anything here, please move on. I somehow thought you might be at least a smart asshole, but clearly you are just trolling. Continue to live in your small world based on your limited personal experience.
