Any chance of getting reimbursed a year later

Post by Anonymous User » Thu Dec 17, 2015 8:01 am

?

So, I submitted my NALP reimbursement forms to firms at the normal ish time in October or so during 2L. Got $ back from most. 3 didn't pay me back, so I followed up in like March or so. Of the 3, 1 then sent me a check. Two never sent me anything, and I got so busy between then and now I kinda forgot about it. Now it's December of my 3L year and I really wouldn't mind that $350 or so.

Is it even worth continuing to poke these guys? FWIW, one was a Houston Big 3 firm, and they made me pay for my own taxi to and from the Houston airport to downtown Houston, which is like $70 or some shit. Probably out almost $200 for that CB.

Any downside to pestering the recruiting staff yet again to GIMME MI MONEYY???

I suppose it is theoretically possible I would want to lateral to these firms down the line, but I don't really see any relation there

Just forward them your previous email and tell them you never received a check. No sense in tip toeing around the feelings of a debtor

Agree w/above. No need to be rude or anything, everyone can get busy and whatnot, but definitely no reason you should be out that money you were promised.

I would definitely reach out. I found firms were loose with reimbursements, even when the forms were submitted 3-4 months late. And as long as you're polite, I doubt the person doing reimbursements will ever (remember you or) have an impact on your reputation or ability to lateral.
Maybe send an email like:

Hello,

I was cleaning out my email folders and noticed that I never received acknowledgment from you firm on my submitted NALP Reimbursement Form. Would you please let me know the status of my reimbursement request?

This email chain should contain the details of my callback date and expense, but please let me know if you need any additional information to process and issue the reimbursement.

The warmest regards,
(Impecunious 3L doing last minute Xmas shopping)

You're only supposed to send the NALP reimbursement form to one firm. I interviewed with firms in Houston and NY, and I submitted it all to one firm in Houston (marking the city-specific expenses as such, of course). Although I had to politely remind them 6 weeks later, they promptly reimbursed me after that. I'd definitely follow up as many times as is necessary. They owe you money.
