On one hand, it's Dec. 1 in Japan...

What are your credentials? I know native japanese speakers who struck out of japanese offices in HLS. (Granted, most got MoFo if they wanted) Applying to japan 1l might be a stretch even if you are fluent.

this is a really bad post on a number of levelsAnonymous User wrote:What are your credentials? I know native japanese speakers who struck out of japanese offices in HLS. (Grant, most got MoFo if they wanted) Applying to japan 1l might be a stretch even if you are fluent.
@OP:
After 1L finals is likely to be fine. I don't think the timing crunch is as bad for Japanese offices.
I don't know if they've shifted their model back, but MoFo had been hiring a number of 1Ls. There are some other shops that have historically taken 1Ls or 2Ls. Depending on your school, there also might be some fellowships to snag.
If you want to pursue working in Japan post-grad, I think being there for your 1L summer is a big help. You'll have many opportunities to network and the firms like to wine and dine the 1Ls who are in Tokyo.
That said, thoughtfully consider whether you actually want to work in Tokyo long term. It can be a good way to network with people from the firms that have a presence there, but I think some firms will start trying to push you to their Tokyo office (where you're more profitable), so if you know you don't want to end up there, maybe skip it. (hard to argue with the money, though)
