Everyone off until Monday?
I was with a few attorney friends and one of them said that she had to come into the office on Friday. I thought that was really odd. Aren’t most of you off until Monday?
(FTR: I took Tues-Weds off to turn this into a six day break.)

I'm off because I took leave. The office isn't closed.

Same here, I suspect that ~60-70% will take the day to make it a long weekend at my office.A. Nony Mouse wrote:I'm off because I took leave. The office isn't closed.

I'll have to go in at least tomorrow or Saturday. I'll do as much as I can from home but the office isn't closed tomorrow.

First long weekend since June 14. I've earned the snark I've prepared my bosses for if they bother me.

City government attorney. We were allowed to leave early on Wednesday and will be allowed to tomorrow as well, but obviously the office is open and we're expected to be there. Kinda mad/disappointed they didn't just close the office on Friday but whatever. I have fedgov friends and I think they have basically the same thing going on.

Biglaw associate. Office is closed tomorrow, but will probably have to do several hours of work sometime this weekend.

Can't you just take off? Don't you get a lot of vacation?Anonymous User wrote:City government attorney. Haha yeah I could, and I imagine that many attorneys and staff did take off today, but I didn't because I'm still relatively new here and I'm in a very high volume unit where I already have a few deadlines today.sparty99 wrote:Can't you just take off? Re: Everyone off until Monday?
Our office is closed. NYC V10. Last year, we closed the Friday after Christmas (when Christmas fell on a Thursday), too.
Realistically, I'll be working, possibly part of the day from the office. I've had very bad luck with Thanksgiving time being one of my busiest times of year all three years I've been at the firm. Yesterday I was online on VPN for about four hours* and saw literally no one else online on our internal chat system the entire time except a couple of people in the London office. Will be different today but not much.
*Was not at all required to work yesterday (and got more than one email from someone's phone telling me to stop working), but the work I did yesterday reduced the load for today a lot, which was the main motivation.

Office closed Thursday, Friday, and over the weekend. I'm not expecting to do any work but will monitor email over the weekend.

NYC V-50. Showed up, and realized nobody else is here. Really got to start reading my e-mails.

I caught the traffic report on TV. The usually traffic jammed roads are bare. I figured the few people I saw driving into the city were either lost tourists or looking for a black Friday deal. A small comfort for anyone who has to go in today, you’ll have no traffic problems.

Re: Everyone off until Monday?
I feel guilty not coming in to work for four straight days. I billed around 70 hours total for my first two months. I'll be off for another two weeks in Christmas/New Years. The axe is coming soon -- I just know it. Getting paid this much to do jack squat has to be too good to be true.
