Any recommendations for pro bono req for NY bar?

Post by desperate4lawschool » Sat Nov 21, 2015 2:44 am

As you may already know, the NY bar has the 50-hour pro bono requirement to be accepted to the bar.

Thing is, I've been struggling to find something part-time to fulfill that requirement. I've contacted a few organizations, but I'm sure they're inundated with similar requests. In addition, as a federal employee, I am ethically barred from doing anything that's involved with any federal agencies. A lot of NY non-profit organizations deal with immigration, which is what I'm interested in, but I cannot do that. As I live in Manhattan, I'd like to be somewhere near where I live.

Anybody can help?

Talk to your law school to see if they have postings. Even if you've graduated, they should be able to help. You might be able to do "lawyer for the day" type work in, say, housing court or something like that.

I recognize you said "anything involved", but in case you just meant in opposition to, government, including federal, agency internships/externships count for pro-bono..
