Working during spring 2L - have summer SA lined up - conflict? Forum

I'm working at a big firm for summer SA, but I want to make some money now so I have gotten a job as a law clerk for the spring semester. Do I need to let my firm know about this? If yes, how should I let them know? Would this mess with getting an offer at the end of the summer?

Any one have experience getting a school-year law clerk position with a criminal defense/white collar/investigations firm? SAing at a big firm this summer, but I'm curious if I can do this without stepping on any toes, or if it's worthwhile, in order to get some general experience in the area.

Yes, you will need to go through a conflicts check for your summer firm job prior to starting so that they can put any necessary ethical walls in place for any conflicting matters. Unlikely to tank your SA gig. But they need to know what you're working on/have worked on so that they can deal with conflicts and wall off documents on the system appropriately.

I would let them know in the springtime when they start contacting you with more details about your start.
