Anonymous employer on Symplicity

Post by Anonymous User » Wed Oct 21, 2015 5:20 pm

Anon because I'm giving out very detailed info that I have a question about.

On Symplicity, an employer posted a position for a summer associate. However, the firm's name had been withheld.

Is there any rhyme or reason for the firm doing this?

It's for a secondary market if that makes a difference. I was under the presumption that it is a big law firm that had a spot open up and doesn't want dozens of applications sent in just for the name.

I did apply because it is an area that I am interested in but is there any way to find out who I'm applying to? It just seems bizarre that a firm wouldn't want candidates to know who they're applying to.

Some employers just want to be anonymous. I guess they think it will cut down on applications from people who aren't serious candidates. I've seen those posts from smaller offices before. You could ask someone in your career services office about the firm. They will probably tell you the employer did not want their name announced but might give you more details than are on the post.

The employer probably posted it anonymously for similar reasons as to why the first two posts in this thread were posted anonymously.

Lots of people see the option and instinctually click on it because they think it will protect them somehow when obviously there is no reason to do so.

Or it was a mistake.

Or some employers (like posters) just want to be anonymous.

I've always found this strange too. Back when job hunting, I would never even bother clicking on them. I mean, c'mon, I'm not going to apply for a job with a company when you won't even tell me what the company is. The only thing I can imagine is that, as BigZuck said, it's a mistake.
