Hi TLS. I have an opportunity to interview with Drinker Biddle soon about a practice group specific law clerk position for the spring. It is paid, so I can't get course credit for it. Do you think it'd be worth doing? As of now, I do not have a summer job lined up anywhere although I have interviewed at about 8 firms. I'm in Philly at either Temple, Villanova, Rutgers Camden, or Drexel. Thanks.

Why wouldn't it be worth it? What else would you be doing instead?

I know what position you're talking about and the answer is yes absolutely. You wouldn't be the first person to get a FT offer through that route.

Sorry to hijack OP, but do a lot of firms do this? Can you try and do this even if you have a summer gig lined up, or is this pretty much reserved for people not committed to a firm?

I assume this is for the insurance group. If you get an offer from them you should take it. It's a great group of people, there's good variety in terms of assignments, and the practice group leader Steve Baker is one of the highest quality individuals you could ever hope to meet. I previously held this job and will take further questions in this thread if anyone is interested.

That's awesome. What are the hours and pay like? Do you work there now?

I do not work there now but I know numerous people who have gotten full time jobs through that program. If you are a 2L and do not already have a summer associate position or another path to a full time job then this is your best option. When I was there the pay was very good but it was hourly, so it depends on how much you work. Ideally you will maximize your hours so you can be the best law clerk. It is possible they will hire more law clerks than they have full time jobs for, but if it doesn't work out, they are proactive about helping you find something else.

What does "very good" pay mean for someone who is not a summer associate and gets paid hourly?
