Accepting a job and then getting a better offer
Besides the burning bridges reason, is there any other reason not to revoke a previous acceptance? I am not asking in terms of trading up vault firms or whatever. I mean a temporary position at a firm versus a permanent position at another firm in the same market.

I did this before. It really really sucked and was a terrible conversation. But I've never met a single person who said I should ahve done the opposite- and in my case, both were permanent job offers.

Think it's safe to say the only possible exception to this is clerkships.

Bump to ask a question. To anyone who reneged on an acceptance, did you simply email recruiting? What fallout, if any, did you have to deal with?

I did. Do NOT just send an email. It's really rude. at the very least, make the phone call and in person is best if you can.
It's about 3 minutes of crappiness. possibily some character and fitness problems FYI, but rare.

No one will fault you for revoking an accepted temporary offer in order to take a long term offer. Everyone knows they would have done the same thing. Even the people at your CSO office who will make it sound like you're a dirty liar would have done the same thing. They're only concerned about possible bad blood b/w themselves and the employer.

Oh, this is not the original OP. I would be switching firms for ostensibly long-term positions. FWIW, one firm is a lot closer to where I'm from, which partly drives my desire to switch.Anonymous User wrote:No one will fault you for revoking an accepted temporary offer in order to take a long term offer. I cannot possibly see why this would ever be a character and fitness issue. You had a better opportunity, you're taking it, you're letting the other place know. This is really not a big deal.Anonymous User wrote:C&F problems? Really? Damn.Anonymous User wrote:I did. Do NOT just send an email. It would be a nicer touch if you did and they may respect you more for it. But if you're dreading it way too much to the point you might just panic and hang up in the middle of a call, then just send an email.Anonymous User wrote:Do you agree that I should call?zot1 wrote:I cannot possibly see why this would ever be a character and fitness issue.
