In markets where the info isn't really public, is it OK to ask associates at firms you have offers at directly what the bonus/raise structure is like? Not sure if asking for figures from people you will be working with is taboo.

You have an offer, so they are wooing you. They want you to commit. This is the moment where you have the most power, so don't be afraid to use it.

You want to be politic about it. Definitely ask associates, particularly mid-level and senior associates, what the structure and ranges are like. Partners might not know or be misinformed. Talk up how you love the COL in whatever market you are in and then transition into compensation structure with an open ended question. Follow up with questions about ranges or general numbers once you get info on the structure (what does a typical compensation package look like for a 4th year?). Ask multiple people and don't feel bashful.
