A 2L here, still deciding between the two DC offices. Here are some of my thoughts:
1) I'm interested in doing regulatory work, but open to the substantive areas of practice and would prefer to be in a firm where I can have more flexibility. From what I understand, Cleary DC is heavily focused on antitrust and Skadden is more widespread but correct me if I'm wrong. The flexibility factor also goes for the people I work with, and Skadden's larger office seems to provide a better chance of finding the people that click with me.
2) I liked pretty much everyone I met from each office, although lockstep compensation at Cleary seems to provide a better structure for a more friendly working environment.
3) Possible exit options. I understand it will be extremely difficult to make a partner at either firm, and I'd like to have a better exit option down the road. A number of interviewers from Skadden weren't shy about the fact that a lot of juniors leave the firm, but emphasized that partners really help out juniors find opportunities should they choose to leave and that the firm also maintains a strong support network for alumni (not sure how much of this is true).
I'd really appreciate any advice you have. Thanks in advance!

I might be dead wrong, but isn't Skadden lockstep for juniors as well?

I loved the Cleary office but went elsewhere for flexibility reasons as well. If you want antitrust, go there. If you want options, go somewhere that offers them. Skadden has options, so your choice is not too difficult.
