Relocation Compensation
Is this a thing? Whats the norm? Once you come on full time, or for summers also? Worth asking recruiters about this once weighing firms? Sorry for the ignorance.

Most NY firms pay for movers if you are coming from out of the city. Many pay for some portion of your brokers fee. Brokers fees for rentals are really only a NY thing so that is a NY specific benefit, but I think the moving expense is covered by some firms in other markets too but it's much more variable.
For summers they will pay for your checked bags and probably shipping boxes to yourself. I know of one firm that gave a friend ~$1000 as a summer for moving expenses but that was the exception not the norm.

DC here, I got 3,000 as a "transition bonus," which I assume was intended to help move etc as opposed to reimbursements. Ultimately, you could use the money however you wanted I think transition type bonuses like this are fairly common.
