Big Law to Bain/BCG/Mc/etc
Not so much interested in going to management/M&A consulting right out of school, but curious if it is at all likely to do the shift later on, maybe in a few years of Big Law. Currently have an offer with a BigLaw firm which does a lot of work with Bain/BCG.
Any idea how often, if any, associates make the shift to consultants and what the general view is w/in the consulting industry of a lawyer coming over to the consulting side in a non-legal capacity. I have an MBA and spent a number of years in IBanking before law school.

From what I understand, you'd be qualified for an entry-level consultancy job and your time in Biglaw will have little to no impact on that. It's not a lateral move; it's a career switch.

You'll come in at the lowest post-MBA level - no matter how senior a (biglaw) associate you are, you're going to be interviewed to come in as an Associate. There are plenty of folks who make the switch and they are viewed on the merits of how they perform once they start working as a consultant. Biglaw neither a boost nor a demerit.

I'd also add that where you got your MBA is important. The big three are very prestige-driven. And, of course, there are significant differences between the firms in terms of culture, staffing, how quant they want you to be, etc., but you can read a Vault guide or talk to your b-school career office for all that.

Summer at McK here who will be returning full-time. I'd be shocked if you came in as anything but a 1st year associate. Almost 0 of your BigLaw work would translate over (only the client relationship management skills), and you simply would not be able to keep up with an associate who has already been on the job even for only a year (though given you've done banking that would strengthen your candidacy and arguably you would have the skills to get up to speed quickly).

I personally know of 2 HYS JD alum at McK who first did stints at V10s in NYC and then went in as either engagement manager or only took one year to reach EM
not saying this is common, but just that it is possible to go in at a post-associate level

Which firm does a lot of work with Bain/BCG? I'm picking firms and I'm interested in a similar transition
