I get that. I don't think "deserve" is super helpful in this context, is all. It's a little different from saying "that's much lower than the average entry-level lawyer salary."

The good news is that I think it looks fine on your resume if you had a "law clerk" position that you only worked in briefly. In other words, you won't look as flaky bouncing out of it in a few months as if you were an associate.
The bad news is that, if a firm really likes you, they should be willing to disclose associate pay, the path to making associate and the path to making partner. I had offers that even disclosed partner pay and structure. It always makes me nervous when a firm holds out information. Really nervous.
