Weil v. Proskauer (NY)
Curious about what people think of these firms. I'm completely undecided on whether I want corp or lit. I'm not too invested in prestige, but is Weil that much of a bigger name that will allow for better exit opportunities?
Any comments will be helpful.

Fit/happiness > prestige all day. Go with the firm that offers the most exposure and strength in the practice area(s) that you are interested in and the firm that you feel like you would be most comfortable at working with those you meet. Don't let TLS/Vault prestige whoring convince you otherwise. I almost fell into that trap. To directly answer your ? (Excuse the rant), I don't think the difference between these two is that great in terms of prestige.

Just finished a SA at a non-NY Proskauer office and it's definitely a great firm. Having said that, can someone please explain the rancid anti-Weil trolling on this forum? I seriously don't understand it.

I really like Proskauer but if you are corporate, I'd probably go to Weil. From my understanding, it has been doing well and has a more well-rounded corporate practice in NY. This can easily change if you are interested in something like sports or health care, or like the folks at Proskauer better. I'm not sure about litigation. You can get a sense of it looking at Chambers, and they seem comparable - http://www.chambersandpartners.com/1280 ... ion_376083

So a bad joke and one-time layoffs?

I had a CB with Weil's NY office. Ended up withdrawing because multiple attorneys I spoke to mentioned that the firm hasn't been doing well. It's not TLS "trolling."

Considering going to Weil and this is very concerning. Would you please elaborate? What did they say?Anonymous User wrote:I had a CB with Weil's NY office. Ended up withdrawing because multiple attorneys I spoke to mentioned that the firm hasn't been doing well. It's not TLS "trolling."

Re: Weil v. Proskauer (NY)
OP here. Thanks for everyone's comments and votes.
Any comments on having to choose a practice group at the end of the summer for Weil/whether or not they're open to switching? That's one of my main concerns at the moment as I'm really not sure what I want to go into. I imagine I'll have a clearer idea of corp v. lit when I finish my summer, but I'm less convinced I'll know exactly what group I'll want to join.
Also curious about the above post re Weil's financial issues. Have talked to several attorneys and did not get that vibe.

How about this: http://www.weil.com/articles/weil-wins- ... ear-awardsBravo! I'm sure all of the 2013 junior associates who were laid off are raising a glass. And it's also the persisting rumors of financial problems mentioned by the anon above.

How many times are you going to "bump"? Are you also the anon who bumped their own bumps in the Weil Lit thread? Stop it.
