This may be a stupid question, but does the number of people who accept offers after summering at a firm affect the number of available slots for the upcoming year's SA class?

Moreover, if a firm extends an offer to a 1L who summered at the firm to come back during 2L, does that mean that there is one less slot for a 2L to join the firm?

On your first question, my best guess is that most firms would fill unexpected vacancies with 3L hires. This way, they would be getting folks who would start in the same class year.
