Good questions to ask during a CB?

Post by Anonymous User » Fri Aug 28, 2015 8:44 pm

I feel like I am the worst at this. It's always like, "what do you like about the firm," "what don't you like about the firm," "what made you choose this firm," "what makes you stay at this firm," "what was something that you particularly enjoyed working on," etc. I've got Cravath next week, and I doubt my ability to fill an entire day with this shit. Does anybody have any tips/a list of questions. Of course, I do try to get interviewers to expand on their experiences, and to make the conversation flow naturally, but sometimes it's a little hard.

One question that I like to ask for corporate practice, because it makes you look like you are really intellectually curious:

To associates: Do you feel like you get a sense of the "big picture" on the deals that you work on?
To partners: If an associate wants to know why he/she is doing some particular piece of work, are you amenable to talking about how his/her work fits into the "big picture"?

To a partner: What is an aspect of X practice that surprised you or you didn't realize was so important to it when you first started to work at a firm?

They seemed to like this question. Get's them talking for a while.

What are the qualities of a successful associate at your firm? - It's a shitty question, but partners seem to like it, and it gets them talking for a bit.

But honestly, don't just follow some list of questions. Try and draw out questions from the conversations.
