2L In house SA positions?
I'm in significant danger of striking out, and I've started mailing all the V100 firms but I'm not really willing to stray from the list. Firm life doesn't appeal to me in any way except the money, so it's not really worth it to me to take a pay cut and still work at a firm. I'd rather look in to alternative legal positions/other positions in general.
Which brings me to my question - are 2L in-house SA positions a thing? I noticed HP interviewed at my OCI...are there any other companies I should be looking at that have similar programs?

The number of these things that are an actual thing that will get you a job after graduation are small. Though HP is legit, and is run like a Biglaw SA program (to my knowledge), they generally take T10 students that could otherwise get biglaw. However, most in-house summer positions are to fill a specific need, and I doubt there's a great chance that they'll hire you after graduation.Anonymous User wrote:I'm in significant danger of striking out, and I've started mailing all the V100 firms but I'm not really willing to stray from the list. There are plenty of market-paying firms not in the V100.Anonymous User wrote:I'm in significant danger of striking out, and I've started mailing all the V100 firms but I'm not really willing to stray from the list. If you are in danger of striking out yet not willing to stray from the V100, then you can't complain about striking out. God forbid you apply to the 101st firm.

You're missing out on a bunch of 160k jobs outside of vault 100. I.e. Stroock for instance.

OP here - all of this is nit picking and not actually answering the question I posed. Yes, I know there are firms outside V100 that pay market, and I will mail those firms, but the point remains that IN GENERAL i'm not looking for a 2nd tier firm SA that would pay me less than market because firm life doesn't appeal to me.DJ JD wrote:Came here to say this.xael wrote:

Re: 2L In house SA positions?
But that is dumb because most of them pay market and the v100 is a completely arbitrary cutoff.

Re: 2L In house SA positions?
OP: as others might have noted, you're ignoring the fact that 1) in-house SA positions pay less than non-V100 biglaw, 2) there is an incredibly small number of these positions anyway (that lead to full-time employment).
You're framing your choice as being between BIGPAYCUT and BIGINHOUSE and the decision being over the tradeoffs that you'd be willing to make between those options.
It's not. If you're on the verge of striking out, your choice is between: GOTJERB and UNEMPLOYMENT+CRUSHING DEBT. I think that's a pretty easy decision to make.

Re: 2L In house SA positions?
I don't have debt. The allure of biglaw money is just that, making a shit ton of money at 25. If I'm not making a shit ton of money at 25, I'd rather do something else since law firm jobs sound pretty unfullfilling and meaningless. I made this thread to explore options that are not biglaw and not public interest. As I said, I specified 2L SA style jobs because I'm not looking for a SA that guarantees me a job later...just something substantial to do over the summer.Anonymous User wrote:OP: as others might have noted, you're ignoring the fact that 1) in-house SA positions pay less than non-V100 biglaw, 2) there is an incredibly small number of these positions anyway (that lead to full-time employment).

In house jobs aren't necessarily any more fulfilling or meaningful. My jobs plenty unfulfilling and meaningless, but it's nice to get home early!

General Electric and Proctor Gamble also have fairly robust entry level hiring programs iirc.

well now I don't want you to get an SA anyways so only mass mailing the v100 sounds like a great ideaAnonymous User wrote:I don't have debt.
