Thoughts on these firms for litigation?
Is this plan sound? Interested in lit. Please do not quote.
I received an offer from Cleary NY. Because of this, I plan on dropping upcoming callbacks I have with Latham NY and Covington NY. I plan on on keeping callbacks with Gibson Dunn NY, K&E NY, and STB NY. Is this sound?
I think I'd like to be in D.C., so I plan on keeping all D.C. callbacks. But have some questions about A&O DC and OMM DC. I like A&O DC a lot, but wonder if it would be foolish to turn down a NY V10 for it (I'm thinking about exits). I also like OMM DC a lot, but I hear its reputation for lit is centered around its appellate practice. Any thoughts?

What kind of exit options do you want? Based on working in DC in gov't with many lawyers in Big Fed for many years, I can say vault rankings mean slim to none. If you want to be in DC long term, stick with a DC firm and forget about Vault to a large extent.

Why drop Latham and Covington and not the others? Seems like you may as well do them all and see what you think.

Thanks for the replies.
In terms of exits, I'd like to stay in a firm as long as possible. Exiting to a smaller firm would be my top choice. But a close second is government; long-standing interest in policy work. Zero interest in in-house or anything on the business-side.
Fairly certain I want to drop Latham because of job security. Thinking of dropping Covington because I don't know if the NY office is as well-regarded. I just don't think I'd seriously consider either over Cleary, but if I'm off-base I'd like to know.

Sounds pretty sound. Although I don't think K&E is quite as well regarded in NY. Still great though. Congrats!

Thanks for the info. So A&O has a strong reputation in DC? I couldn't find much information on them.

Any idea about difficulty in transferring offices from those NY firms (either before, during or after your summer)? Covington, Latham and Gibson all have very strong DC practices so that seems like something to keep in mind.Desert Fox wrote:Oh wiat I had a brain fart and thought you mean A&P. A&O and OMM are def less prestigious but DC is better than NYC for biglit in terms of QOL.Anonymous User wrote:Thanks for the info. So A&O has a strong reputation in DC? Is K&E's NY office any good at litigation? Honestly don't know.
If I were you I probably would meet with all of those NY firms and toss a few of those DC ones (which frankly don't seem like as high quality firms)...
