Skadden v. DPW (NY Corp)
I am fortunate to have offers from both Skadden and Davis Polk and am completely torn between the two. I am interested in corporate work and obviously both have top tier practices. Can anyone speak to differences between the two. I plan to do 2nd visits but TLS has helped me in the past so if anyone has any insight it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Congrats. Very generally, it's M&A for Skadden and capital markets for Davis Polk (although each one is good at the other too, so can't go wrong). The firms are known to have their own cultures, so I would go on second looks, meet more people and choose based on personality fit. That's what I ended up doing when I was deciding - it's splitting hairs for firms at that level.

When did you do your SB and when did you receive the offer?

DPW took 2 business days, Skadden was 3.
Can you talk more about the culture reputations at the two firms?

This is even a question? Skadden's marketing team deserves a bonus if this isn't flame.

Re: Skadden v. DPW (NY Corp)
I used to work at Skadden NY and know tons of people at DPW. There is no tangible difference in work experience, practice groups, or exit options. DPW is perceived (deservedly so) as the leader in capital markets/finance, while Skadden is seen as the leader in M&A, but you can do either practice area at either firm without any real difference in substantive experience.
FWIW, Skadden is a stronger brand name in the business community. I now work in a different market for another elite firm and can tell you that of the V-10, only Skadden is well known outside the legal community. That said, this shouldn't influence your decision making. Equal pay, equal experience, so just find the place you think you would like to work.
