At what point should/can I remove the ttt from my résumé?

Post by Anonymous User » Mon Aug 17, 2015 7:28 pm

I just graduated from UT/Vandy-narrowly outside the top 10%. I went to a shitty ttt my 1l year and was top 6%. I have an upcoming fed dist clerkship and will soon be applying for big/mid law. One the one hand, I kind of like having the info from my 1"l school on my résumé because: (1) I think it's honest and (2) Im actually proud of how I did-even at a low ranked school. That said, this profession is so prestige obsessed that I think it could be a hinderment. Is it ever appropriate to take off the 1L school? If so, should I?

Not a transfer, but I think it would be fine to remove anytime at this point if you have more pressing items to put on your resume and need the space. Worst case scenario a biglaw firm thinks you are trying to trick them, and youll get nixed, so maybe you keep it on there for your first job.

Once you get into private practice, I would absolutely remove it because no one is going to care where you did your 1L year and you'll need the space.

On the contrary - bg check will likely require transcripts to prove that you went to the schools you said you did, etc. Not having listed it would be a red flag in my mind. Additionally, even pre-bg check, many firms ask for transcripts from laterals. Not having 1L grades from the school, but not having it on your transcript, will be strange.

I don't think it's a question of valuable room - it can take as little as one line.
