White & Case v. Cadwalader v. A&O v. Linklaters (NYC)
Looking at transactional practices in general at the moment. I have a very international background (worked abroad, speak foreign languages) and would be interested in practicing abroad for a while, but still unclear how easy that is to do from the NYC offices (for the UK firms and W&C). I also really liked the people I'd met at A&O. Would it be nuts to take an offer from the UK firms over W&C/Cadwalader when - from my understanding - the NY offices of the UK firms aren't that strong? Thinking about strength of (domestic) exit options down the line. Thoughts very much appreciated. Thanks!

White & Case is definitely better than Cadwalader in any case. Not sure about the British firms' NY offices.

For anyone facing similar choices now or in the future. If working abroad--whether via secondment or transfer, or even starting your career overseas--is your top priority, can't go wrong with Linklaters.

White & Case, the rest 3 aren't peer firms in NYC. If you go to AO or LL New York, many times you would just be the US counsel on Euro-centric transactions, whereas at WC, you would be the leading counsel, but also working with other international counsels. Check their partners' deal lists to get a sense.

This. If you are planning on staying in NYC long term, go with W&C. But if you want to get exposure to primarily multi-jurisdictional deals (which NYC law firms tend not to touch) and make a career in Asia or Europe leveraging on such experience, LL and/or AO will be stronger options.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Wed Mar 10, 2021 1:22 amWhite & Case, the rest 3 aren't peer firms in NYC.
