Feeling Hopeless
OCIs weren't the best for me. Out of 20 screeners, I only got 3 callbacks and I am worried things won't pan out for me. The callbacks haven't happened but I am feeling defeated already. Any comforting words?

Hopeless with 3 CBs? Please calm down and instead of whining on here, massmail and prep for your CBs.

Re: Feeling Hopeless
I got 2 callbacks the first day of OCI last year and then NOTHING for the rest of the week. Eventually a couple more trickled in but those first two unsurprisingly became my best bets (and thankfully were two of my top three choices). Several points from this little anecdote:
1. Callbacks don't just come the first week, more may come down the line after OCI. I got one as late as 3 weeks after OCI and I hear they come even later for some people.
2. Those 3 callbacks, if they happen relatively soon after the interview, may mean the firms are pretty interested in you. Be a functional and professional adult, and just try to have some good normal conversations with the people t your callbacks, and chances are better than even that you'll do well.

Screeners with 18 firms, only received two CBs. There isn't much we can do except focus on knocking our CBs out of the park and massmailing like there's no tomorrow.

There are people with an equal number of interviews and zero cbs. Count your blessings, literally.
But in all reality, don't count yourself out of the rest of them until you've heard a ding. All firms have their own process with this.

Even if these were low yield cbs with 33% offer rates, sounds like decent odds to me. Chin up bruh. Finish strong.
Also mass mail like a motherfucker. Most people in real life don't have a clue about it; luckily you're on tls.

You realize that some of us haven't had more than 3-4 screeners and no callbacks, right? And you're feelng hopeless?OCIs weren't the best for me. Calm your tits. You'll be fine.

Yeah, 3 callbacks is alright. You got callbacks, and all you need is one offer. Little early to declare hopelessness.
Actually, kinda seems like you got a little too confident because you got a good number of screeners.

Re: Feeling Hopeless
I did 28 interviews last year, had only 3 CBs. Felt defeated, scared, paranoid, depressed. I didn't want to see any of my classmates' faces that week, because I knew they were kicking ass. I even contemplated and thought through the logistics of dropping out of LS that weekend.Anonymous User wrote:OCIs weren't the best for me. Then CBs happened, and I went 3 for 3. My how the tables turned after that.

Re: Feeling Hopeless
30 screeners, no callbacks yet =(
I have one callback through independent outreach and connections, if I don't get that one I'm basically fucked. I would kill for 3 callbacks, or hell, even one callback from OCI just so I can feel like not a complete failure.

Re: Feeling Hopeless
Nice humble-brag OP. Hopelessness is maybe justified when you strike out completely, not when you have 3 callbacks.
To the previous poster with 30 screeners and 0 CBs, don't despair. I also completely whiffed at OCI (25 or so screeners, 0 CBs), but scored many callbacks from mass-mailing secondary markets I had ties to or which were within a few hours of areas I had ties to. I ultimately ended up with a market-paying gig, and many other people I know who struck out got jobs via mass-mailing as late as November or even 3L year. I completely understand your feeling of failure, but it is WAY too early to be saying that you are fucked right now.

What did you do to prepare for those? What made them your best? I have just one at this point and would really like to knock it out of the park. My grades kind of sunk me for the most part, since my interview skills were not strong enough to overcome them. Then CBs happened, and I went 3 for 3. My how the tables turned after that.

Re: Feeling Hopeless
As of now I have fewer than you, out of 26 screeners. I'm top 20% at a ccn, secondary journal.
My interview skills are evidently shit, and all I keep worrying is that my strongest suit - my transcript - is a much weaker factor at this stage. I have to survive what is effectively four longer screeners for a successful callback, and the two I have are apparently miraculous in the first place.
I will be doing a lot of mass mailing next week.
