Has anyone had success with online applications, hospitality suites, or giving materials to interviewers?
There were a few firms that I unsuccessfully bid on that told me to submit my application online through an online form. I also gave my materials to some firms' hospitality suites. For the firms that didn't have hospitality suites, I knocked on the interviewer's door on their lunch break and gave them my materials. Has anyone ever actually gotten a screener or callback from such methods? Just wondering what my chances are. I imagine it's similar to mass-mailing in that people rarely get interviews without excellent grades.
Thank you for your responses!

I'm a 3L, but I massmailed a V20 firm a few weeks ago, and the firm just called today asking to do a screener with them while on campus for OCI.

I got one callback from a firm that I didn't get a screener with. Went to their hospitality suite, dropped off materials, chatted up attorneys there. I think it helped that the room was empty so they were all focused on talking to me.
Another firm squeezed me into the end of their schedule after I emailed the recruiter and asked if it'd be possible to speak with the attorneys since I was really bummed not to get a screener with them (& they didn't have a suite I could visit). Got a callback with them too, since they could tell how eager I was to have a chance to speak with them.
Basically you just need to work it. I had a lot more firms just totally ignore my emails, or just ding me outright after visiting suites. But I also have 2 callbacks so far just from hustling.

Same as above - I got a screener & then a CB from a firm where I went to their hospitality suite, chatted up some people, and dropped off my resume. You do have to kind of hustle and be confident about it.
I also got a screener & CB from a firm after emailing their recruitment person when I didn't get a screener through the OCI lottery. So it does work!
ETA: USC/UCLA Top 30%ish

How far down (schools and grades) does the "drop by the recruiter's room/table" strategy hold any water?
What about non T14 and below median? Straight to the trash can?

My roommate (lower T-14, slightly above median) got a straight to CB invite without screener after visiting the firm's hospitality suite and chatting with the attorneys and recruiters, so it can happen. Definitely stick around to talk instead of just dropping your resume off.

T30 transfer to T14, school doesn't rank but finished with > 3.9.

MVP, bottom 1/3, secondary journal. I got 3 screeners and a callback from hustling at the hospitality suites. It works, especially when you have a compelling reason for wanting that firm. I also have an in-office screener scheduled because I attended an after-OCI firm reception.

Does this apply to non-lottery schools as well. Feels unlikely to apply, not get pre-selected, and then retry again.

First in class at a school ranked in US News 80s, callbacks through mass mailing/online apps with a V20 and V5, hustled at a hospitality suite for another callback with a V20 - all in DC.

I mean, what other important things do you have to do during this 1 week of your life? Even if you don't have much of a chance, the potential upside is great while the downside is what, having to make idle chit chat for a few minutes?Anonymous User wrote:How far down (schools and grades) does the "drop by the recruiter's room/table" strategy hold any water?

OP here! I did drop off my materials and go to receptions. I was just asking to see if that had actually ever worked for anyone - looks like it has for plenty of people, but unfortunately I haven't heard from anyone. Maybe I should send follow-up emails?chuckbass wrote:I mean, what other important things do you have to do during this 1 week of your life?
