How to tell if it's straight to callback Forum

I'm having an initial interview with a v10 post clerkship. Firm is paying for lodging, travel etc. I hear about straight to callback interviews on this site and was wondering how to tell if you are in that situation. I've done mass mail screeners and usually had to fit the bill.

Depends how many people you're interviewing with. If only 1 or 2, that's not a CB. If more like 4 or so, that's more likely to be a CB.

Does it matter? In other words, will it change how you approach the interview?

IME, post-clerkship hiring does not always follow the traditional screener --> callback --> offer progression. You should be prepared for the fact that any meeting you have with a lawyer regarding post-clerkship employment (coffee, informational at the office, etc.) could lead directly to an offer. I literally got one offer over coffee and another after what I though was a purely informational interview (paid my own way, etc.). I also had a couple of what I would view as traditional "callbacks," although neither was preceded by a screener so they weren't callbacks so much as just straight interviews.

My point is that you shouldn't get too caught up in how to label your post-clerkship interview. Post-clerkship interviews are just not as susceptible to neat labels.

Definitely contact recruiting and see who/how many you are meeting with though.
