If you got an invitation for the invitation, does that mean that you will be called to have a callback interview at the Firm? I'm curious because I had my screener interview already and then got an email stating that I was invited to attend this event. I havent heard from the screener which leads to my confusion. Any clarifications would be gladly appreciated.
Thanks

Re: Simpson Thatcher Diversity Callback Reception
As an attorney who helps organize this event, it really genuinely is not intended to trip anyone up. I suppose I could imagine someone screwing up so completely that it would actually affect them negatively (but this has never happened in my experience), but for the most part the average awkward people are simply forgotten and see no impact either way (though recruiting always notes everyone who attends, and it's a small tic mark in your favor to do so as it shows some interest in the firm). Mainly, it's the people who make a genuine positive impression during these events who see some significant effect. Primarily, the purpose of the event is to benefit 2Ls, though, and give them more information about the firm.
We (STB) invite people who interviewed with us on campus for whom a callback determination has not yet been made as well as those who actually received callback invitations. However, given the timing, I suspect that you have a callback from a partner who simply hasn't made the call yet for whatever reason (out of the country, maybe). The invitations to people without callbacks yet typically go to people at schools whose OCIs are within a couple of days before the reception such that many callback determinations actually haven't been made by the time of the reception. Can't guarantee anything, though, as I'm not privy to your particular case.
