How many years of experience? What kind of company? What practice/responsibilities?

In-house lawyer here. Know the company well and have good questions. Know your resume. For example, if you list commercial agreements on your resume, be prepared to talk about these agreements and the negotiation pain points.

Don't mean to hijack, but wondering how one goes about getting in-house gigs. Any particular path, or would a couple years in biglaw set you up well?

If the company is public, check their 10ks. Great source of information to ask questions, find out their most pressing legal issues, and impress them with your knowledge of the company.

Focus on being pragmatic, helping the company's bottom line and furthering their business. They don't care about beating every single legal issue into oblivion. They want you to keep outside counsel in line and under budget.

Original Anon here. I have 2 years clerkship experience and 2 years law firm experience (mid-sized-ish firm) doing corporate work (mostly financing transactions with a few m&a) in a very small market (though it is not unusual for the opposing counsel in our deals to be biglaw). The in-house position is with a non-profit in the same small market.

Thanks for the points already made. I reviewed the 990 and prepared some questions related to that. I have also prepared ways to discuss how my experience can translate into the needs of the non-profit. And I know some recent headlines for the non-profit and am prepared to discuss/ask questions about those headlines.
