How can I bump up my interviews as a below median student?
I've had about 10 interviews so far. The impression I'm getting is that none of the interviewers are particularly interested in me. I walk in, give them a transcript (sometimes they look at it and sometimes they don't), they'll ask me about my summer job and some other stuff on my resume and then ask if I have any questions. Occasionally we'll shoot the shit about something for 5-10 minutes. I think that aside from my grades I'm a pretty attractive candidate (great experience, unique background etc), plus everyone has told me I interview well and am personable and friendly, but I feel like I'm not being able to really express to them why they should hire me. Because my grades aren't good, it's important that they know what I can bring to the table (though some of it is reflected on my resume).
Any thoughts? I'm weary of becoming too neurotic in my interviews, since I've heard that interviewers would rather have a comfortable conversation rather than go through some bullet point list of how great I am.

Sounds like you aren't giving the firm enough attention. You should know things about the firm and have some very targeted questions that show you know about the firm. You're being too passive.

Is this part of your OCI or are these pre-OCI screeners?

I would just second Johann, and maybe have some compelling reasons why you'd be a good fit for the firm. Sell your legal writing skills too, if that class wasn't graded

What I should have said is: how is your appearance? I'm assuming you're at a great school, but if interviewers seem to be discounting you almost immediately, consider how you're presenting yourself. I'm not talking about how attractive you are, but rather how you make that first impression. As superficial as people tend to be, that might be worth revisiting. Just a wild guess on a random post.Anonymous User wrote:Hmm I never even thought of thatBNA wrote:Brush your teeth.
0L, but have hired, and have been hired by, many people. Your presence the second you walk through that door is as powerful as the next 5 minutes of conversation. The immediate write-off points to something like that. You're getting interviews, but feel like you sink as soon as you walk in.
