1l competitive intern

Post by Anonymous User » Tue Jul 07, 2015 5:48 pm

in at a Fortune 500 and there is just one other intern. Everyday she stays an hour past when we have to. I see her checking to see if I've left yet. Usually I just leave when we're supposed to. It's a 1l internship for gods sake. I get my work done just as well. Does it look bad that I leave on time especially given that the company I'm working at does not hire right out of law school anyways

Clear out your schedule one evening and stay until she leaves.

Stop in at quitting time one night and say "hey, I'm going to grab a quick bite, if anyone asks for me I'll be back in an hour or so."

Leave the office one night, go grab food or something and come back and leave some marginally important note on her desk- like hey, I found a case that might be useful for your project. Get in a few minutes late the next day so she knows you had to have left it after she left.

If she's actually competing with you and doesn't have a legit reason to stay late (waiting for traffic) a few days of tricks like these should drive her insane.

You're fine. Don't worry about it. As long as you get your work done and your supervisor is happy with you, you have nothing to worry about.
